3 Things To Keep In Mind When Getting A Haircut

Do you remember the last time you got a haircut? The pre-haircut anxiety followed by the constant awkwardness during the actual process and then, finally, the disappointment of seeing yourself in the mirror looking far from what you envisioned? Getting a haircut can be quite a horror story.

But it doesn’t have to be that way—as long as you’re prepared.

If the way your hair looks is important to you, you will always feel a bit apprehensive when walking into a hair salon, but if anything, that should motivate you to prepare well for a haircut you’ll love.

Here’s what you need to keep in mind.

Remember, Pictures Speak Volumes

When you walk into a salon for a haircut, the hairstylist will always ask you what kind of cut you want. Now, words are great, but pictures are better.

Before your appointment, take some time out to do your research on Pinterest and Instagram, or go through the salon’s gallery and save images of haircuts you like. Show the stylist those images and explain to them what you like about each cut. For example, you might want to point out your preferred length from one photo while the side bangs in another.

The idea is to show the hairdresser want you want so they can try and replicate it, rather than telling them verbally and leaving it up to their imagination.

Always Speak Up

We’re hairstylists, and we’re skilled, but we’re no magicians or mind readers. Also, we’re trying to give you the best haircut possible, but at the end of the day, it all comes down to personal choices.

So, if you don’t like the direction we’re going in with your haircut, feel free to speak up. Let your stylist know that you’re not completely happy with it. This will allow them to either explain the direction they’re headed in or make adjustments. Keep in mind that there is less room for improvement and fixes with each strand we cut—so speak up!

Find A Professional Hairstylist and Listen To Their Advice

This goes without saying, but when looking for a new hairstylist, it’s always a good idea to get recommendations from friends and family and check out reviews. A hairstylist might be skilled and famous, but they may have a sour personality which might ruin the whole experience for you and discourage you from speaking up.

Also, ask for their opinion once you find a good-natured and professional stylist. You might have a particular haircut in mind, but with their experience, they might be able to tell you if it would work for your face shape or not. Listen to their advice and let them do their magic!
